Communication services are moving towards an all-IP future.  However, the pace of migration to all Next Generation Network services will continue to vary – according to the needs and business models of our customers.

Interoperability therefore remains an important consideration for all of BT Wholesale’s Communications Pallenkeys1.jpgrovider customers.  In particular, there is a growing need for connectivity between VoIP operators, traditional Communications Providers and converged service providers.  This is especially critical in ensuring the continued growth of the IP based communications market, to meet the demands of end users for simplicity as well as cost savings.

IP Exchange enables fixed, mobile, legacy and next generation networks to inter-work in a way that minimises the cost of protocol conversion and interoperability for operators.

Unlike many VoIP interconnectivity solutions available in the market today, IP Exchange offers a resilient port option.  This enables customers to select from a range of protective measures when offering voice services requiring more than "best endeavours" delivery. These include direct connection to one or more IP Exchange PoPs, Direct Access via a resilient neutral access point in a Telehouse, access via BT Collossus (via BT Net) with backup or alternatives via the Internet.
