Between the Lines
WELCOME TO THE LATEST ISSUE
OF BETWEEN THE LINES
This edition of Between The Lines takes a look at some of the ‘green issues’ that are increasingly occupying the strategic agenda of business organisations everywhere. And that most certainly includes Communications Providers.

Our lead article, Tackling climate change, discusses where Communications Providers fit in when it comes to protecting the environment and reducing carbon emissions.

On the one hand, the feature outlines why telecommunications companies have a real leading role to play in CO² reduction – but on the other hand, it explains that they can also benefit from some significant and unique business opportunities by adhering to ‘green’ principles.

To support this feature, Between The Lines also examines the rise of videoconferencing. Web-based conferencing is fast becoming the way that organisations, with distributed workforces and an eye on the environmental impact of business travel, communicate. For Communications Providers this also represents a growing business opportunity.

The way different types of businesses are using new technology is another theme that runs through this issue. While one article shows how small UK businesses seem to be buying into the potential of VoIP more enthusiastically than their larger counterparts, another looks at how SMEs are using high speed broadband to obtain ‘thin client’ benefits including cost savings and reduced carbon emissions.

And there’s lots more too. You can also read about VoIP over mobile, commercial convergence, flexible working and how the outcome of BT’s recent restructure will deliver tangible benefits for the Communications Provider community.
