OF BETWEEN THE LINES
A couple of weeks ago, BT announced a new corporate structure. It’s a reorganisation designed to underpin BT’s transformation from a 20th century hardware company to a 21st century software-based services company.

Two new business units, BT Design and BT Operate have been created to meet the needs of BT’s lines of business as well as the wider communications industry. For BT’s customers, the new structure will mean the delivery of faster, more resilient and cost effective services.

I really believe that BT Wholesale’s customers will benefit directly from this reorganisation. That’s because it will enable us to bring you new services even more quickly than before. These services – based on BT’s 21CN – will be reliable, easy to buy and easy to use. I am convinced that they will add value and innovation to your portfolios, and help to grow your businesses.

Now, while I’m on the subject of added value, innovation and growth, I’d like to draw your attention some of the key articles in this issue of Between The Lines.

The case for broadband services providers to develop value-added services, or VAS, strategies is outlined in a question and answer session with BT Wholesale’s Emma Osiransky. Emma explains how and why the broadband market is evolving and how ISPs can move seamlessly into the world of added-value provision.

Innovative products for next-generation voice interconnect are highlighted in another feature interview, this time with BT Wholesale’s General Manager for Voice Interconnect, Fabienne Dischamps. Fabienne tells us how BT is working to provide the infrastructure to make these new software-based, next-generation voice interconnect services a reality.

We also take a look at Ofcom’s recently published Digital Progress Report, which looks at the incredible growth of broadband in the UK-region. The report analyses levels of take-up, usage and the types of services available in the UK-region broadband market. And there’s lots more too. You can also read about VoIP security, outsourcing and how customer service is likely to be an increasingly important differentiator in the multi-play world.

You can also click on the link at the bottom of the right hand menu to download a PDF of the complete e-zine.Some of the stories link through to other resources and information on BT Wholesale Engage, our multimedia portal which provides news, views, comments and customer research.

And don’t forget, we'd like to hear your views so please get in touch.
